Compton radiography is one of the many types of experiments that uses the ARC laser. Compton radiography allows researchers to see through matter with densities typical to those found in stars.
NIF, located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, is funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration, a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. The world’s largest and most energetic laser, NIF serves as a critical research facility supporting the U.S science-based Stockpile Stewardship Program and also enables fundamental research efforts in fusion ignition, discovery science, and national security.
