I thought I would pay a visit to the Battle of Cheriton battlefield in deepest, rural Hampshire. Fought on 29th of March,1644 during the English Civil War between the Royalist army of Charles the 1st and the Parliamentarian Roundheads.
Battle of Cheriton is the nearest pitched battle in British history to where live. About 25 miles, just to the east of Winchester.
A quick trip to Cheriton Wood, which was of strategic importance to both sides during the battle for some Wayfayrer meatballs and pasta on the gas stove. A very pleasant afternoon in a tranquil spot.
