Finish grinding is considered the final, mechanical surface intervention of metal workpieces. This process step serves to grind out scratch marks and to produce a decorative surface. Certain grinding patterns up to a mirror finish can be achieved on the sheet metal surfaces.

In the last processing step, mainly abrasive fleece, abrasive cloth and felt tools are used as endless belts or as wheels. In manual finishing processes, the result and also the reproducibility depend considerably on the operator. When finishing by machine, the machine must have appropriate adjustment possibilities (e.g. stationary sanding belt).

In this video, a high gloss finish is produced on the metal surface with a hand-held machine. For this purpose, a polishing disc with a diameter of 125mm is mounted on the hand-held machine. Polishing paste is applied to the polishing plate to support the process. The polishing paste is used to close the finest unevennesses and scratches on the surface.

During the polishing process, the polishing pad is placed flat on the workpiece at low speed and moved evenly over the metal surface with light pressure.
The longer the polishing pad is in use, the higher the quality of the high-gloss finish.
