At 6:10am on Monday, July 29th, 2024, the Downers Grove FD was dispatched to 525 63rd street for a fire alarm. While enroute, PD advised heavy smoke and fire showing from the church and the alarm was upgraded to a structure fire. Engine 105 arrived at 6:15am with fire thru the roof, Battalion 100 arrived a minute later and upgraded to a Box alarm. The alarm was ultimately upgraded to a 2nd alarm. 2 tower ladders and numerous hand lines were used to contain the fire, which was reported to be gas fed.
