Historic recording of the Chinese guqin piece "Ou Lu Wang Ji"《鸥鹭忘机》(No Ulterior Motives Regarding Seabirds)
The performers are as follows:
● Zha Fuxi (查阜西, 1895-1976), guqin (Chinese 7-string zither)
and
● Jiang Fengzhi (蒋风之, 1908-1986), erhu (Chinese 2-stringed fiddle)
Both players were prominent Chinese musicians of the mid-20th century. Zha, originally from Jiangxi province, is credited as one of the primary individuals who promoted the guqin both before and after China's 1949 revolution. Jiang, a native of Yixing in Jiangsu province, was a student of Liu Tianhua and considered an innovator in his own right in terms of erhu technique.
Recorded July 7, 1962.
The musicians in the photo, which was taken in Shanghai in 1954, are as follows (left to right):
Wu Jinglüe (吴景略, 1907-1987), Wu Zhenping (吴振平), Zha Fuxi (査阜西), Jiang Fengzhi (将风之), and Guan Pinghu (管平湖, 1897-1967).
Note that, in this recording, the erhu is tuned F-C (low to high), a sixth lower than the erhu's more usual tuning of D-A.
