An ancient unique German Jewish custom now practically extinct. The custom was for the woman to craft a sash from the cloth used to swaddle a baby boy at his bris milah ,this sash was then used to bind the Torah scroll.
When the baby boy turned three . A ceremony called “Schul füren” which the child was introduced for the first time to the synagogue was held . The father and son would then tie the Wimpel around the Torah scroll after the reading the portion of the week.
