Ashley Graf - 50 questions to a faster onboarding (as a QE)

Onboarding. Everyone has to do it. There’s no question, it can be a real challenge. Whether you’re switching companies or teams, there’s a whole new set of people to know, processes to get familiar with, products to understand, SUT state to comprehend, and access/devices to set up.

In this talk we’ll go through the first 50 questions you’ll end up asking at any place to get up to speed, whether it’s as an IC ‘on the coal face’, or as management, to understand how your staff work and the challenges they face. We’ll cover People, Product, Project, Process, Tools, Tech Stack, and Problems.

Ashley is a software tester based in Sydney. She brings all her relevant experience from previous careers to each role.

As a former marketer, she enjoys making abstract testing concepts understandable for everyone.

Lee Hawkins' "Lessons Learned in Software Testing"*

Lee started his life as a tester in a different century, spending twenty one years with the same employer in a range of different roles - but always staying in testing!

Reflecting now on how the broader IT landscape changed around him and how his roles & responsibilities changed along with them, there are consistent themes and valuable lessons that are still relevant today.

Learn some new tricks from this old dog as Lee shares some of the lessons he's learned during this long journey in the testing industry.

In the IT industry since 1996 in both development and testing roles, Lee has spent most of his career helping software development teams across the world to improve the way they build, test and deliver software. He currently helps SSW and their clients to improve their testing and quality practices in his role as Test Practice Lead.

Lee was the co-founder of the TEAM meetup group in Melbourne and co-organized the Australian Testing Days 2016 conference. He is a frequent speaker at international testing conferences and blogs on testing at Rockin’ And Testing All Over The World. He is a co-founder of the EPIC TestAbility Academy, a software testing training programme for young adults on the autism spectrum.

Lee has been deeply involved with the Association for Software Testing for many years. He was the Program Chair for the CASTx18 testing conference in Melbourne and also co-organized Testing in Context Conference Australia 2019.
