HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A BORING BLUE SKY DAY
Shooting photography on a boring, hot, cloudless blue-sky day isn’t exactly ideal — and this shoot was no exception. The heat was intense, the sand was almost unbearable to stand on, and the light was flat and unforgiving. But sometimes those are the days that test you most as a photographer.
In this video, I head out with my black and white infrared-modified Fujifilm X-Pro2, pushing through difficult conditions to see what’s possible when the light really isn’t on your side. I manage to come away with a few strong infrared images, proving that even challenging days can still offer creative opportunities.
Back at the computer, I walk through my infrared photo editing process in Adobe Camera Raw, showing exactly how I approach contrast, tonality, and balance when working with black and white infrared files. I then review each image individually, explaining:
What works
What doesn’t work
Why certain compositions succeed
Why others fall flat
This isn’t about perfect conditions or chasing Instagram skies — it’s about real-world photography, creative decision-making, and learning from both successful and unsuccessful images.
