About Video: In this video, I have explained to you in detail about Charter Pilot: What Is It?
In India, a charter pilot is a professional pilot who operates aircraft on a charter basis to transport passengers or cargo for hire. Becoming a charter pilot in India typically involves the following steps:
Obtain a Student Pilot License (SPL): The first step is to obtain an SPL from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is the aviation regulatory authority in India. To qualify for an SPL, you must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of 40 hours of flying time, including at least 20 hours of solo flying.
Complete Private Pilot License (PPL) Training: After obtaining an SPL, you will need to enroll in a DGCA-approved flying school and complete the necessary training to obtain a PPL. This typically includes ground school training covering aviation regulations, navigation, meteorology, and other relevant topics, as well as flight training to gain experience in operating aircraft. The minimum flying time requirements for a PPL in India are 60 hours, which includes at least 20 hours of solo flying.
Obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL): Once you have obtained a PPL, you will need to build additional flying hours to meet the requirements for a CPL. The minimum flying time requirements for a CPL in India are 200 hours, which includes at least 100 hours of pilot-in-command time. You will also need to pass the relevant written exams and practical tests conducted by the DGCA.
Gain Experience: After obtaining a CPL, you will need to gain experience by working as a co-pilot or flying for a charter company to build your flight hours and gain practical experience in operating aircraft for charter purposes.
Obtain Type Rating: Depending on the type of aircraft you intend to operate as a charter pilot, you may need to obtain a type rating. A type rating is a specific endorsement on your CPL that allows you to operate a particular type of aircraft. Type rating training is typically provided by aircraft manufacturers or approved training organizations.
Obtain Required Certifications: In addition to the SPL, PPL, CPL, and type rating, you will also need to obtain other certifications such as a Class 1 Medical Certificate, Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) License, and Instrument Rating (IR) as per the DGCA requirements.
Meet Other Requirements: There may be other requirements such as language proficiency, age limitations, and security clearances that you will need to meet as per the DGCA regulations.
It's important to research and understands the specific requirements and regulations set forth by the DGCA and follows the appropriate steps to achieve your goal of becoming a charter pilot.
