Jason Reed, a human pilot of the rugged SS Valkyrie, is tasked with transporting Vaelina, a haughty Khordas princess. She mocks the ship’s "primitive" manual controls and refuses a safety harness, choosing instead to sit in Jason’s lap to assert her status. When "Dampener-Killer" raiders attack, the ship's artificial gravity fails.
