WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES - U.S. President Donald Trump speaks in the White House Briefing Room about the weekend military operations to rescue U.S. military personnel in Iran, and the deadline he has set to clear the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump appears to set a new deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He wrote, after issuing a profane message renewing threats to bomb power plants and other infrastructure if Tehran does not lift its effective blockade on the vital waterway. Senior Iranian officials issued their own threats in response to Trump’s ultimatum and said the strait will remain blocked until Iran receives pay for war damages.
President Trump offered more details of the rescue in a social-media post Sunday morning. “We have rescued the seriously wounded, and really brave, F-15 Crew Member/Officer, from deep inside the mountains of Iran,” he wrote. “The Iranian Military was looking hard, in big numbers, and getting close….The second raid came after the first one, where we rescued the pilot in broad daylight, also unusual, spending seven hours over Iran.”
The president added that he will hold a press conference “with the Military” at 1 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox, Trump suggested that the U.S. could reach a deal with Iran as soon as tomorrow, according to Trey Yingst, the Fox reporter who spoke with the president.
