Created by Digifish for the University of York, this short documentary explores the impact of The Place — a community hub based in Sanderson Community House, right in the heart of the Chapelfields estate.
The Place provides activities, support and opportunities for local children, young people and adults. Its focus is on improving lives, building confidence, and helping people realise their potential through education, creativity and connection.
Working closely with the University of York team, we first developed the narrative — identifying who could best bring the story to life — before building a flexible filming schedule around real community activities. Filming took place over several visits to ensure we captured a true reflection of the energy, warmth and purpose that make The Place so special.
For us, this project was a reminder of where it all began. Paul Banks (Creative Director, Digifish) started his career making films for local communities back in 2001, and that same ethos — empathy, authenticity and collaboration — continues to shape how we tell stories today.
