Vivi Lachs is a historian, researcher, writer and performer of Yiddish song. She focuses on finding songs about London that were performed in the theatres and music halls, union demonstrations and streets, and whose lyrics describe parts of London history. They are charming, strident, funny, naughty, angry and deeply moving. She then writes about the histories they contain: labour, work, sex, and politics. Vivi has just completed a translation fellow with the Yiddish Book Centre. In this concert, Vivi will perform her own newly composed melodies to old Yiddish song texts from London. She will briefly describe the songs in their context, and will also talk a little about "musical translating" - how a historian thinks about composing new tunes to old words.

Nicole Borger, a Brazilian Jewish artist, was born and raised in São Paulo, of an American father and a Portuguese/German mother. Along with her musical career, Nicole obtained a Law Degree from the Catholic University of São Paulo, and later studied Composition at São Paulo´s Santa Marcelina University. She is a practicing attorney, an artist, and also the executive director of Jewish Music Institute of Brazil and producer of Kleztival - the yearly International Jewish Music Festival. In Raízes/Roots (2015), produced by Frank London, Nicole gives voice to the deep desire of the immigrant to find a place in the new home, still remembering the origin of the journey. Her efforts now are concentrated in bringing Latin America closer to the US, Europe and Israel, in terms of Jewish Music, while, at the same time, expanding horizons, opening the ears and broadening the public that may enjoy Jewish Music in Brazil and in Latin America.
