"What if it doesn't end well? Would you still stay?"

The song is What if it doesn't end well, by @chloemoriondo: • What If It Doesn't End Well - chloe morion...
This AMV feels extremely 2021-coded, between the end of She-ra and that specific era of chloe moriondo. Probably because I had the idea around that time and then never got around to making it real. Until now.
So here, have a She-ra AMV that has been living rent-free in my head for years! I mean, I needed to do it at some point after all, to someday reach a critical mass of sapphic cartoons and animes over here.

As an aside, to ramble a little, it has been... strangely harder than I thought to actually make this AMV. I knew it to some extent - I mean, "stay" as a word has been so deeply linked to She-ra in my brain since I watched it - but this made me realize just how much of She-ra's impact is often conveyed through words and specific lines... sometimes more than a meticulous framing of the scenes they're told in.
Not that the series doesn't have its fair share of handholdings and meaningfully framed moments, of course! But crafting this, I still felt like a lot of scenes have a character on screen talking and moving and doing things - with little offscreen voiceover, narration, symbolic shots, or anything like that. And several pivotal moments are made heavy first and foremost because of what is happening or being said, more than how cinematic the scene is (though some scenes, in S5 notably, sure are). Which makes it a bit harder on the AMV-making overall, to me at least.
Thinking back on it, I also realized how a lot of the She-ra edits that blew me away in the past few years have actually been in good part made by stringing and editing long scenes together and keeping their lines, with music used more to reinforce the atmosphere; more so than what a classic AMV with a lot of short cuts usually does.
Random shoutouts, because they've been living somewhere in my brain, to
this one by Jula Misiak • catra and adora | you must let go
and that one by nialies • take me back to the start | catra/adora [s...
for instance.
This, to me, examplifies how She-ra shines more through its delivery than through the pure cinematic aestheticism of its scenes.
I still managed to make this idea of mine into an actual AMV, though, so here you go! (Heck, I even had to leave out some episodes I really didn't think I would, like S1E8 Princess Prom, or S5E11 Failsafe!)
... ... You know, maybe I've been too high on Utena this year, considering all my recent AMVs about it, and I've since been expecting slow, purely symbolic shots in every show.
Heh. Maybe that's a little bit true.
(Now it makes me think about how mindblown I was watching Utena for the first time and discovering retroactively that She-ra's last episode had a shot for shot reference to it.)
Anyway. That was me rambling. Thank you for reading, and watching!
