City Approves Major Mixed-Use Development in East Edmond

Описание: A major development is coming to East Edmond after the Edmond City Council unanimously approved zoning for a 645-acre mixed-use community near the upcoming Post Road interchange on the Turner Turnpike.

The project, proposed by Arcadia Farm, LLC, is being described as a long-term, multigenerational effort to build a walkable “live, work, and play” village. Over the next 20 to 30 years, the community will include housing for all life stages, restaurants, local retail, and recreational spaces, all connected to Edmond’s trail system and the Lake Arcadia parks.

“This development supports Edmond’s controlled and balanced growth initiatives,” Arcadia Farm said in a statement. “It will be the first of its kind in Edmond, combining village concepts with large forested common spaces.”

According to the developer, approximately 200 acres of forested land will be preserved as open space, promoting sustainability and aligning with the City’s Edmond Plan 2018 and East Edmond 2050 Plan. The community design emphasizes healthy living and outdoor activity, a point highlighted by project representative, Todd McKinnis, during the council meeting.

“Thoughtful, sensitive, intentional, patient, those are the words that represent this project,” McKinnis told the council, adding that the team had worked closely with neighbors and city staff throughout the planning process.

However, not all residents were on board with the project. Tyler Ashby, who lives near the proposed development, voiced concerns about how the project might affect his family’s quality of life.

“Imagine all of you having that trail run right on the other side of the fence in your backyard, and you can stare at everybody running down that trail,” Ashby told the council.

City Councilman Barry K. Moore expressed his support for the project, but reassured residents that if the developers don’t stick to their word, he’ll change his mind in the future.

“If they don’t do what they promised me, when they come in for a preliminary plat, final plat, site plan, anything that comes before this body in the future, I’ll vote no,” Moore said.

Moore joined other council members in voting to approve the zoning, citing the project’s long-term vision and potential to contribute to East Edmond’s future growth.

With the green light from the city, Arcadia Farm, LLC says it looks forward to beginning work on what it calls a “thoughtful, sustainable concept” that blends community, nature, and economic development.
