San Francisco’s JFK Promenade and Great Highway Park were created as car-free open spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic, and quickly became San Francisco’s most visited city park spaces. San Francisco is now deciding the future of these spaces post-pandemic. Meet a few of the people that rely on these spaces, including:
• Carol, an 80-year-old senior that relies on the safety of JFK Promenade and San Francisco’s Slow Streets network to safely navigate the city and Golden Gate Park in her mobility scooter;
• Holly, a mother of three that was first able to enjoy the oceanfront with her disabled son because of the introduction of Great Highway Park;
• Kingston, a 12-year-old who can build his own bicycles, but relies on JFK Promenade to safely ride away from the gun violence in his neighborhood.
Meet these neighbors who rely on the safe places to recreate and build community together, then take action to save these unique community spaces:
