The reason for its fame dates back to the *Muromachi period**, when Banri Shukyu listed Gero Onsen alongside **Arima Onsen* and *Kusatsu Onsen* as one of the "Three Famous Hot Springs." This designation was later reaffirmed in the Edo period by Hayashi Razan.

Choosing the Suimeikan ryokan in Gero Onsen was, looking back, an absolutely brilliant decision and a truly memorable stay. Our only regret is that we stayed for just one night; we absolutely should have stayed longer.
