Описание: Paul’s research is focussed on the biosynthesis and evolution of antimicrobials and understanding resistance to antimicrobials. His work uses a wide range of techniques from structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular genetics and microbiology to understand how bacteria produce and resist antimicrobials. The global increase in antimicrobial-resistant infections means that there is a need to develop new approaches to discovering antimicrobial molecules and strategies to combat the issue either through mechanistic understanding of resistance, through to developing drugs to evade resistance and developing novel, rapid diagnostics. Paul’s laboratory use a range of technologies from next generation sequencing technologies, mass spectrometry, microscopy, chemical biology and biophysical characterisation (FT-IR, CD, SwitchSENSE, SPR, ITC etc).
