Описание: A magical performance of Ba Duan Jin by lineage holder Shifu Wu Nanfang himself on Songshan Mountain, the birthplace of Zen.

Ba Duan Jin — Eight Pieces of Brocade. One of the most practised qigong routines in Chinese martial arts. Every tradition has its own version. This is ours — rounder, more spiralling, more flowing. Where other styles extend the limbs fully, we stay compact to contain the Qi rather than disperse it.

"When practising, settle the Qi, use heart and intention, don't use brute force. Let the Qi sink into the Dantian. Practise this way long-term and the body becomes healthier, work goes more smoothly, life becomes more harmonious." — Shifu Wu Nanfang

THE EIGHT EXERCISES

1) 两手托天理三焦 — Liǎng Shǒu Tuō Tiān Lǐ Sān Jiāo — Two Hands Hold Up the Heavens.
Opens and regulates the Qi of the San Jiao (upper, middle, lower organs). Helps Qi flow smoothly throughout the whole body.

2) 左右开弓似射雕 — Zuǒ Yòu Kāi Gōng Sì Shè Diāo — Drawing the Bow to Shoot the Eagle.
Opens the chest and smooths the Qi. Strengthens heart and lung function through alternating loose and tight, open and closed.

3) 调理脾胃须单举 — Tiáo Lǐ Pí Wèi Xū Dān Jǔ — Separating Heaven and Earth.
Regulates spleen and stomach. Allows stomach Qi to sink and spleen Qi to rise.

4) 五劳七伤往后瞧 — Wǔ Láo Qī Shāng Wǎng Hòu Qiáo — Wise Owl Gazes Backward.
Opens the central nervous system. Relieves fatigue. Benefits the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body.

5) 摇头摆尾去心火 — Yáo Tóu Bǎi Wěi Qù Xīn Huǒ — Sway the Head and Shake the Tail.
Dispels heart fire. Opens the Qi of all organs. Fills lung Qi, generates kidney Qi, helps the liver's releasing function.

6) 背后七颠百病消 — Bèi Hòu Qī Diān Bǎi Bìng Xiāo — Bouncing on the Heels to Shake Off All Illness.
Opens the meridians for smooth Qi flow. Regulates the central nervous system. The slower you go, the smoother the Qi and blood flow.

7) 攒拳怒目增气力 — Zuàn Quán Nù Mù Zēng Qì Lì — Clench Fists and Glare Fiercely.
Regulates spleen and stomach. When digestion is robust, it helps generate Qi and blood. Put effort into slowness.

8) 两手攀足固肾腰 — Liǎng Shǒu Pān Zú Gù Shèn Yāo — Two Hands Hold the Feet to Strengthen the Kidneys.
Raises kidney Qi. The kidneys are the root of prenatal essence. The previous seven movements all serve this final one.

THE GULUN APPROACH

Natural breathing as standard — even, fine, smooth. Movements slow, gentle, flowing. One foot as root, one hip as pillar. The body leads the hands.
