I cannot believe I'm f i n a l l y posting a marissa edit!!! she has been my favorite television character for over a decade, and I've tried so many different edits of her over the years but this is the project that finally stuck. this song was perfect because it allowed me to capture a lot of different parts of her story -- her family struggles, her breakdowns, her loneliness, her issues with alcohol/drugs, and her ability in the face of it all to keep hoping for her fairytale. there's a lot of material to work with for her so of course some things had to be left out, and I tended to focus on moments that have stuck with me over the years or that I relate to personally, but all in all I'm satisfied with the end result and I hope marissa fans out there will enjoy this!

I also did a full rewatch of her scenes while working on this (shoutout to this channel for helping with that:    / @xprincesssparkle777x  ) and I have some miscellaneous thoughts I just need to share:

I try not to think about the end of her story too much but it's hard to avoid it, and as always it just kills me to see how she was in such a good place at the end of her life. she was finally getting out of newport, she was making good choices, she had her hope back, and she had repaired nearly all of her relationships including her relationship with julie which was always one of her biggest issues.

the episode where she visits berkeley has become one of my absolute favorites now, partly because I was so proud of her for taking that step for her future and I think she would have ended up there after her gap year. and maybe it's my love for matt barr but I really think wes/marissa could have been wonderful together -- in just that one episode, they had great chemistry and the way he treated her was just beautiful. I would have loved to have seen more of them.

after reading mischa's recent statements about her treatment on set, my heart breaks for both her and for marissa. it's really apparent especially after having the context of that article that things were really not great at the beginning of s3. most of her storylines just like... had no heart to them anymore? and mischa was clearly not having a great time, understandably so. her relationship with ryan was just off for the most part, summer didn't seem to care a lot of the time, and her friendship with seth all but totally disappeared. I actually am a fan of the second half s3 and I think they corrected a lot of their mistakes from the first half of the season, I just wish that the last 10 minutes were different obviously.

anyways, I've also been working on a seth/marissa edit (FINALLY!) which is much less depressing than this edit lmao so that will hopefully be finished in the next month or so!
