Could a newly discovered gut bacteria help with weight loss? A groundbreaking study found that mice given this bacteria didn’t gain weight, even when eating a high-fat diet for 10 weeks. But what does this mean for humans? Could this bacteria provide similar weight management benefits as GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy?
Dr. Sue Decotiis, a triple board-certified weight loss physician in New York City, discusses the potential of gut bacteria in weight control, inflammation reduction, and overall health. While these findings are promising, long-term studies on humans are needed before any conclusions can be drawn.
Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome could play a key role in metabolism and weight management. Could this bacteria be the future of weight loss treatment? Watch now to learn more!

Speaker 1: If Mbeki was affecting reproductive health, neuroinflammation, and anxiety-like behavior.
Speaker 2: In the groundbreaking study, mice given this bacteria didn't gain weight even when eating the equivalent of fast food for ten weeks, which of course raises some questions.
Speaker 3: What about a year or two? Right? If that mouse is still alive?
Speaker 1: Currently, we think that they're very healthy.
Speaker 2: But that doesn't necessarily mean if this drug was available to humans, we'd be able to eat whatever we want.
Speaker 3: We're talking about mice in a relatively small population. I definitely think that getting your bacteria in your gut healthy is a very, very good thing to do. And probably people that are thinner by nature probably have healthier gut bacteria.
Speaker 2: Doctor Sue Decotiis is a triple board-certified weight loss physician in New York City.
Speaker 3: It would be great if they can, you know, level it up, give it to people and see if it can compete and give us the same results as a GLP-1 drug by reducing inflammation in the body and being able to cause long-term weight control.
Speaker 2: According to doctor.
