Andrew Forrest has been at the frontier of Australia's fledgling green hydrogen industry, with a lofty promise of producing 50 million tonnes by 2030. Unlike traditional hydrogen, green hydrogen is created without the use of fossil fuels.
Green hydrogen is a key pillar of the federal government's energy plans. The Treasurer announced incentives to spur on production in the May budget as part of its Future Made in Australia package.
Now, Fortescue has announced it will slash hundreds of jobs - and there are reports that it could also fall short of its 2030 green hydrogen target.
