Deschutes Civic Assembly 2024

Описание: In Fall of 2024, a demographically representative group of residents from across Deschutes County, Oregon, was selected at random to help local leaders build better policies for tackling the challenges of youth homelessness. Assembly members mirrored the age, gender, geographic, housing status, and political affiliation of the broader community.

This Civic Assembly was the first of its kind in Central Oregon and gave people from all walks of life a seat at the table alongside local officials. For five days, the Assembly delegates learned from subject matter experts and people with personal experience, then formulated and voted on recommendations to governments. In the end they reached more than 75% consensus on 23 policy and programmatic recommendations.

On November 7th, just two days after national elections, delegates presented those recommendations to city and county elected officials, who pledged to consider and respond to back to the community on implementation.

This is citizen democracy in action. Your neighbors coming together, regardless of differences in backgrounds or beliefs, to find common ground. It's a blueprint for a better shared future.
