Well I'd been off work all week and not gone out on my bike....simply unacceptable, I know!
So when I woke up Sunday morning I had no plan. After having breakfast and looking at the beautiful clear blue sky I just had to have a word with myself, "get out and bloomin' well ride your bike!". I really need to get into better shape if I am going to complete the up coming BHF Peak District Challenge (originally signed up in 2020). At 43 miles and about 6,000 ft of climbing I am begining to feel that I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew.
So after slinging on the riding wrags and dusting off the Cotic I head out from the door. Without a specfic plan I just headed off and made choices along the way.
Inititally heading South West over Beeley Moor the roads were showing me winter had not yet given up its grip with ice making the roads a little tricky. Pushing on I took the back lane down to Chatsworth. From the Garden centre I headed up to Manners wood and then down towards Bakewell.
A short sprint along the Monsal trail ended at Hassop station and I headed on road again towards Hassop Hall. Turning off road I cut through onto Thirteen bends and then onto Baslow.
The tough climb up from Baslow ended at the top of Baslow Edge and Wellington monument. From there it was more road work before cutting through Linacre and back home.
A good run for the legs but not an MTB challenge. This would make a great gravel ride to be honest. What matters is that it left me smiling, not only because it was more than glorious but I also had got myself out there and not lounged about on the sofa like a slug. Result!
Comes in at approximately 26 miles and 2,800ft of climbing. Steady...if a bit muddy!
