TAEASS412 – Assess competence. In this lesson, we walk through how to gather quality evidence, compare it to the unit’s requirements, and record a clear outcome while meeting the Principles of Assessment (fair, flexible, valid, reliable) and Rules of Evidence (valid, sufficient, authentic, current).
You’ll learn how to:
Clarify the assessment context and conditions
Select suitable methods (observation, questioning, third-party reports, portfolio, RPL)
Map tasks to the elements, performance criteria, knowledge and performance evidence
Judge evidence against benchmarks (not against other learners)
Use sufficiency checks and authenticity strategies
Make and document the assessment decision
Give constructive feedback and manage re-submissions/appeals
Keep compliant records for audits (ASQA/RTO)
