We brewed a Pacific Northwest IPA using experimental grapefruit hops and grapefruit puree.
*UPDATE 5/13/17: This beer won a gold medal in its category at the Heart of Cascadia: Colors of IPA competition*
PACIFIC NORTHWEST IPA RECIPE:
Targets:
1.066 OG
1.013 FG
60 IBU
9 SRM
1 hour mini-mash (148F)
7.5 lbs Mecca Grade Lamonta
1 lb Mecca Grade Vanora
1 lb Wheat Malt
.5 lb Mecca Grade Opal 44
1 oz Ahtanum (mash hop)
1 hour boil
.5 oz Centennial (FWH)
.5 oz Centennial (30 min)
1 oz Amarillo (15 min)
3 lbs Light LME (10 min)
1 oz Citra (10 min)
1 oz Amarillo (5 min)
1 oz Exp. Grapefruit (0 min)
Fermentation
Imperial Organic Yeast A24: Dry Hop
Primary ferment at 65F (2 weeks)
Split to two 3 gallon secondary vessels
Grapefruit Secondary
Rack onto 1 can Vintner’s Harvest Grapefruit Puree
1 oz Exp. Grapefruit (5 day DH)
1 oz Amarillo (3 day DH)
Standard Secondary
1 oz Denali (5 day DH)
1 oz Hull Melon (3 day DH)
