If you're a fan of small Alfa Romeos but aren't quite ready to de-camp to the world of EVs just yet, listen up. The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida will soon be available to order in the UK (it's a hybrid, if that wasn't immediately obvious), with prices starting at £27,895. That makes it exactly £6,000 cheaper than the entry-level EV version.

The Ibrida (get practicing your best Italian accent on that) runs a 48v mild-hybrid system that pairs a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a small electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox. Total system output is 134bhp and it'll do the 0-62mph sprint in 8.9 seconds.

And yes, it's the same hybrid setup found in the Fiat 600, the Citroen C4, the Peugeot 2008, the Jeep Avenger, the Vauxhall Mokka and plenty more Stellantis products besides. Blimey, we're out of breath.

The addition of the Ibrida means there are now three powertrain options for the artist formerly known as the Milano. The entry-level Elettrica develops 154bhp, while the really rather impressive Elettrica Veloce has its motors turned up to make 276bhp.

Like its more expensive EV siblings, the cabin of the Alfa Junior Ibrida features posh ambient lighting, a 10.25in driver display, a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant and a 10.25in central touchscreen with phone mirroring for Apple and Android handsets.

There’s an optional tech pack, which adds matrix headlights, a wireless charging pad, parking sensors and more driver assistance bits. There’s also a ‘premium’ pack which includes privacy glass, heated and massaging seats, a black bodykit and a leather steering wheel.
