We learn the history of the Stourbridge Lion, which made its maiden run in 1829. It was the first engine to run in North America, making Honesdale the birthplace of American Railroading. Next, we embark on the Stourbridge Line Train to White Mills enjoying the majestic Pocono Mountains. We have lunch at White Mills and then have a photoshoot run-by of our consist, led by both engines, the Stourbridge Line BL2 Engine 54 and the Pennsylvania E7 Engine 9880. When we view the E7, it gets into high gear and smokes huge billows of smoke as if it just got 20 drops of smoke fluid. Nice to have two engines run by our excited train aficionados.
NEXT –We get picked up by Steamtown’s Nickle Plate GP7 to explore the Steamtown National Historic Site. We see the static Big Boy engine, the turning of the turntable, the Lionel Tent, and many cars and engines in the Steamtown collection. Included with this tour is a ride on the Scranton Electric City Trolley as it runs through a mile long tunnel to Montage Mountain.
