“The Strategist” examines the foreign policy career of former U.S. National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft. Scowcroft helped to manage the American departure from Vietnam and to plan the historic breakthrough to China, urged President George H.W. Bush to repel the invasion of Kuwait and worked to shape the West’s skillful response to the collapse of the Soviet empire. Scowcroft was among the most respected voices in Washington to publicly warn President George W. Bush against rushing to war in Iraq.
Sparrow studies American political development and the conjunction between the American state and the international system. He teaches courses on American territorial expansion, American political institutions and processes, American politics and government, political communication and the politics of food in America.
