This event recording provides an opportunity to hear the 2024 Perrie Lecture on evidence-based strategies to protect and improve the psychological health of staff working in prisons.
Bringing together findings from different fields, the first half of this session presents tried and tested ways of keeping staff well, while the second offers a chance for reflection on the barriers to and opportunities for improving prison staff wellbeing.
Key Takeaways
• understand evidence-based strategies for protecting the wellbeing of staff in prisons
• learn what organisations can do, and what leaders and managers can do, to maintain or improve staff wellbeing
• discuss common barriers to and opportunities for better protecting staff wellbeing in prisons.
Speakers/Presenters
Dr Georgia Barnett (forensic psychologist) and Dr Helen Wakeling (research psychologist) are evidence-based practice specialists, and founders of Knowledge to Action, which aims to bring evidence into practice in the criminal justice system. They supported HMPPS in its response to staff wellbeing during COVID-19 by bringing together key learning from the best and most up-to-date research about prison and probation staff wellbeing across the world. Last year they were asked to give a Perrie Lecture on their learning.
Who Should Attend
This session is ideal for people involved in leading, organising or managing strategies or activities to protect staff wellbeing, or for anyone interested in staff wellbeing in prisons.
