Explore the ancient origins of Kamrup at the Madan Kamdev temple complex! Located in Baihata Chariali, just 40 km from Guwahati, this site holds a pivotal place in Assam's history. Dating back to the 10th to 12th century A.D., these ruins, confirmed by Assam Archaeology, were erected by the Palas of Kamarupa, devoted to Hindu Tantricism. Dive into the world of Tantric rituals, including the unique reflection of Kamdev's erotic practices. Legend has it that Kamdev, revived by Lord Shiva at this very site, named 'Kamarupa' in Assamese, and built a temple with his wife Rati, known today as 'Madan Kamdev'. Despite the destruction of many temples, Madan Kamdev's surviving portion still showcases the finest medieval temples in the Brahmaputra Valley, adorned with cosmic figures and sculptures. Join us on a journey of spirituality and history, as we celebrate the auspicious Kam triodasi tithi, described in Yogini Tantra, during the month of Chaitra. Discover the significance of this celebration, symbolizing liberation from sin and attainment of moksha, continuing to be celebrated with grandeur at the temple
