This presentation was designed to give a very general overview of Family Level taxonomy for larval stages of Ephemeroptera (Mayflies) commonly found in California and routinely seen in BMI (Benthic Macroinvertebrate) bioassessment samples. As such, they are used in assessing the health of aquatic ecosystems. The presentation was geared toward individuals with a basic knowledge of science and an interest in freshwater aquatic environments such as rivers, streams, and lakes. The goal was for webinar participants to understand how and why these organisms are important for healthy watersheds, and for them to come away with a basic knowledge of the different types of ephemeroptera and how to tell them apart. This is the first in what we hope with be a very useful series of webinars exploring the families of various aquatic benthic macroinvertebrate taxonomic orders.
