I recently saw a ranking of Hot Water Music albums and nearly fell out of my chair.
Fuel for the Hate Game was ranked SIXTH.
For me this album has always been the obvious number one.
I first heard Hot Water Music on a high school lunch break when a friend who played in Incision (later Grade) put them on for me before Grade toured with them. The rawness and authenticity hit immediately.
The melodic bass lines, the dual vocals from Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard, and that gritty Gainesville production made this album feel completely different from anything I was hearing at the time.
Songs like Turnstile, Freightliner, and Difference Engine still hit just as hard today.
This record helped shape the sound of melodic punk, hardcore, and even emo in the early 2000s.
So now I'm curious.
What do you think is the best Hot Water Music album?
