As yall probably know, I really enjoy gansai style watercolors, and enjoy the art of etegami. I was pretty excited to hear that Kuretake's released 12 new Seasonal colors that include some lovely pastels and some beautiful subtle tones. Hang out with me today as I unbox and swatch these new colors and put them to the test painting hydrangea blossoms in etegami.

Etegami Paper Test:
Puts me in mind of hydrangea- maybe I'll include a quick etegami fieldtest at the end of the video?

Etegami Field Test:
Note: Usually when I'm doing etegami postcards, I use the Mozart Komorebi palette, as it's more portable.
Colors didn't blend as softly as the Komorebi does- I think there's probably more binder in the Kuretake. I also couldn't get the hydrangea colors as dark as I would've liked- but that's not really the fault of the palette, this is mainly pastels, and it's difficult to get pastels much darker.
I also noticed it dried really stiff and crackly- normally I secure etegami while I'm painting it with a bit of washi on the back, but opted not to this time, as it's always optional, and when I bent the card back into shape, I heard a lot of cracking and was afraid I'd start to SEE some cracks.
Colors dried a bit more shiny than I'm used to with etegami- probably due to the binder
