Its music is powerful, yet intimate. Wistful, danceable, catchy synth lines, Gregorian choirs, punky guitars, haunting arps and lyrics that really have something to say. All these things are echoes from the 80s that can be found back within the music of La Lune Noire.

Inspired by the likes of Gary Numan, Front 242, Killing Joke, Depeche Mode and early Simple Minds, La Lune Noire reminds you to the new wave era, but have created an authentic and modern sound of their own.

The album is called Penguin Park. Why?
Victor, the songwriter of La Lune Noire, wanted this album to sound more like it was recorded in the 80’s. Back then, he used to go out dancing in Rotterdam at a place called Pinguin Park and always thought this was a name he could use as a band name, song name or name of an album. As you can see, it turned out to be the latter.

Why an 80’s kind of sound?
Nowadays with synthesizers you have access to millions of sounds. Back in the 80’s, when Victor bought his first synth (Korg Prodigy) there was basically 1 sound that you could adjust. Listening back to his old demo’s from those days, you could immediately hear the sound of the Moog. Victor wanted to relive those days by choosing only 1 lead sound for the whole album. It’s a bit like a basic setup of a band (drum/bass/guitar) where the instruments also have only one sound, which can be adjusted. So, back to
basics. Not spending endless hours on finding a new sound, but on writing strong melodies.

Tell me more about the cover of the new album
We like to think that this rather dull but funny looking animal sees him/herself as a bat (well known for its connection to the new wave/gothic scene). When the spotlight is out, you can only see the penguin, but once it’s on …. A bit of self reflection from Victor’s point of view 😊

What makes this album different to the previous 6 albums of La Lune Noire?
Unlike the previous albums, Penguin Park is not a concept album. If you do see a red line in it, please let us know 😉. Furthermore, for the first time, Paul has played all guitar parts on this album. We have also changed the drum sound in the songs.

What are the lyrics all about?
Lyrically, it’s about several different issues that were on Victor’s mind at the time he wrote the lyrics. For instance, an anti-war song (Out of here), a pro-earth song (Tearing me apart), a song about intense dreaming (Dragons) and one about the end of a relationship (Exit wounds). If you take the time to listen to the lyrics, it should not be too hard to figure out what it is all about (most of the time, the titles should give you a hint). We’d like to remind you that Victor is a writer with a lot of imagination. All things written may not be his opinion or real life events.

How will the album be released?
Penguin Park will be released on a limited edition USB bracelet (well known to the La Lune Noire fans, as the previous 2 albums were also released this way) and on all the major streaming services.
