The path of Non-Duality is a form of advanced yoga, known also as Jnana Yoga or Advaita. In India, this path is reserved for the advanced seeker that has already trailed the more basic yoga systems -- Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga and the variety of Psycho-Physiological yogas.
The most outstanding characteristics of the Non-Duality path are its complete disregard for formalities in the relationship with the teacher (aside from the good manners and love that regulate every human relationship,) its extreme simplicity (it does not require to practice any particular discipline of meditation, exercises of any kind, or diet) the absence of traditions, rituals and lifestyle recommendations.
The focus of Advaita is two fold:
1- To trigger the Awakened State as soon as possible. Awakening is an event in time and happens in an instant. You clearly see or realize that the "I" or "me," which was the center of your thoughts and actions, is entirely conceptual or not real,) and recognize your Self as formless Awareness or Consciousness. Awakening brings the end of the self-development project which was based on the original lie of the existence of a separate little "self" that is in charge and responsible to evolve itself. At that moment it also triggers the beginning of the next phase, which is known as "embodiment."
2- To embody the Awakening into the mind-body organism in order to express the Divine in thought, feeling and action.
The Non-Dual path is extremely fast and effective at triggering Awakening, after Awakening some seekers refuse to continue working towards embodiment. Gian Girardi, Founder of the Brain Optimization Holistic Institute (2005) has been encouraging his students -- in satsang, coaching sessions and classes -- to take the embodiment phase seriously, until they are fully established in the Enlightened state (peace of mind under all circumstances.)
Awakening leads to the life changing realization that we are all Consciousness. As a result of this realization a new psychology emerges, a new paradigm, a new way to look at life that is immensely liberating, and it is called "Psychology of Consciousness." Metaphysics is only a first step and then in order to continue towards Liberation we need to leave metaphysics behind and learn about the "Psychology of Consciousness." Consciousness is beyond mind but it teaches the mind how to think and feel.
Formal meditation has value and helps in the path, but we need to go beyond formal meditation, and that is attained through the study and application of the Psychology that Consciousness. This advanced and liberating psychology is taught to the organism initially through teachers and eventually through direct intuition and realizations. In this video Gian explains why and how to keep the heart empty so that we can experience the Divine Feelings -- Love, Joy, Peace and Bliss -- constantly.
