Sciatica can feel frustrating—especially when everyday movements like sitting or bending forward trigger sharp, shooting pain down the leg. For many people, this is a sign of flexion-intolerant sciatica, where forward bending puts extra pressure on spinal discs that may irritate nearby nerves.
What’s surprising to many patients is that stretching the hamstrings—often the first instinct—can actually make things worse in these cases. Because the pain feels like it’s coming from the back of the leg, it’s easy to assume tight hamstrings are the problem.
