Описание: Today marks the 81st anniversary of the murder of Polish army officers and others carried out in Katyn by the Soviet Union’s NKVD on the orders of Stalin. Almost 22,000 Poles - army offices and leading civilians - fell victim to the brutal executions carried out by the communist regime. The discovery of the victims’ mass graves was announced by Germany on 13 April 1943, but for decades the Soviet Union refused to accept responsibility for the crime, seeking to blame Nazi Germany, but finally acknowledged the truth in 1990. Poland’s president Andrzej Duda recalls the event.
