Ampico reproducing piano roll #216403 is heard on a large Chickering Ampico Grand built in 1928 and restored in 2014 at Historic Pianos. The roll is a dance medley roll of popular Fox-Trot songs from 1938, played by Frank Milne, but issued under a known pseudonym of "Noel Sherry." The strict rhythm of the roll is well-adapted for dancing, although the lyrics of the songs are also shown. The songs heard are 1) Music, Maestro, Please! 2) Says My Heart, 3) In Any Language, 4) Day Dreaming; 5) You Leave Me Breathless.
This large (6'7") 1928 Chickering Ampico A grand has an unusual dark oak "harpsichord" artcase. Before restoration at Historic Pianos in early 2014, this instrument had been almost 50 years with the Ampico not functioning, and the piano itself had not been playable for many years. The instrument was restored in 2014 for a new owner who selected this unusual instrument for both its beautiful casework and because of the excellent reputation of vintage Chickering instruments.
