Sky News host Andrew Bolt says it seems the number of people shoplifting has exploded over the past few years.
“It's like the social bonds were snapped in those lockdowns because there has been an explosion of shoplifting,” he said.
Mr Bolt's comments come as Coles announced it will roll out new technology to track shoppers' moves in the supermarket to prevent shoplifting.
The supermarket giant said it will use body cameras, more CCTV cameras, including under the shelves, trolley locks, and electronic gates to try and stop the rise in theft.
It comes after Coles reported a 20 per cent increase in stock losses, mainly due to theft last year.
