Currently, the JNU Health Centre has only one 20-student slot per week on Wednesdays with a part-time psychiatrist, which is far from sufficient for a campus of thousands.
COLLECTIVE JNU took a delegation to the Chief Medical Officer, raising concerns about the non-implementation of Supreme Court–mandated UGC Mental Health Guidelines.
After multiple NEET-related institutional murder cases this year, all universities are required to implement targeted suicide prevention, mental-health support, and drop-out prevention policies.
Students demanded:
✔ Increase psychiatrist availability
✔ Recruit full-time psychologists & counsellors
✔ Implement UGC Mental Health Guidelines without delay
✔ Ensure a safe, accessible, stigma-free mental-health system on campus
This is a crucial step toward making JNU a supportive and safe space for students’ wellbeing.
