Jack the Ripper and the Thames Torso Murders: One Killer? | Dr Drew Gray

Описание: Could Jack the Ripper and the Thames Torso killer have been the same man?

Historian Dr Drew D. Gray joins Daniel Curtis to explore the four Thames Torso cases discovered between 1887 and 1889—and the possibility that they were connected to the Whitechapel murders.

From the Rainham torso and the Whitehall mystery to Elizabeth Jackson at Horsleydown and the Pinchin Street torso, Drew traces where the remains were found, what the surviving evidence can tell us, and why the cases continue to provoke debate. We discuss the similarities and differences between the murders, the limits of the police records, and why the authorities may have treated the cases separately.

Drew also explains the theory he developed with former student Andy Wise around James Hardiman, an East End man with a connection to 29 Hanbury Street and the meat trade. Could those details point to a link—or do the gaps in the evidence leave the question unanswered? The connection has never been proven, and the identity of Jack the Ripper remains unknown.

Along the way, we talk about Victorian London, the history of crime and policing, and why Drew approaches the Ripper case through its social and historical context—not simply as a hunt for a name.
