As we witness second hand and experience our own pain, disbelief, anger over the January 24, 2026, killing of Alex Pretti– we can only imagine the living experience of the pain and suffering that transforms into anger and anxiety of our Nurse colleagues in Minnesota and across the world.
Alex was a dedicated ICU nurse, caring for veterans and advocating for justice. His murder pierces the very soul of Nursing and directly impacts our morals and values.
The Integrative Nurse Coach Academy stands with our nursing community in shock, outrage, grief, solidarity, and collective care.
Nurses are bearing witness to violence and injustice — whether experienced directly or seen in the media — and it is natural for anger, anxiety, and profound sorrow to arise. These emotions are not weaknesses to suppress; they are meaningful signals about our inner experience and our shared humanity.
To support you in processing these responses, we are offering an Awareness Practice for Anger and Anxiety.
This practice invites you to:
recognize and honor your emotional experience with openness rather than avoidance
explore how these feelings inform your sense of ethics and purpose
learn mindful approaches for staying grounded while sustaining your professional and personal resilience
Your feelings matter. They are information that can guide healing, compassion, and courageous action.
When to Seek Additional Support
If you or a colleague are experiencing intense emotions that interfere with your daily functioning, sleep, or sense of safety, or if anger leads to thoughts of harm toward yourself or others, please reach out for professional support.
Statements from the Nursing Community
We stand in solidarity with nurses and professional nursing organizations who have publicly acknowledged the killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti and have called for accountability, transparency, and the protection of nurses and communities.

Grief, anger, anxiety, and moral distress are valid responses to witnessing violence and injustice. You are not alone. We encourage nurses to care for themselves, care for one another, and seek support when needed — personally, professionally, and collectively.
Nurses must care for nurses.
