In this video, Zen Sir breaks down a comprehensive numerical problem on the Diffraction of Light using a plane diffraction grating. This is a high-yield topic for HSC, A-Level, and undergraduate Physics students.
We will solve a two-part problem involving aperture width, opaque space, and monochromatic light to understand the behavior of interference patterns on a screen.
A diffraction grating has slit width a=4.5×10−6 m and opaque spacing b=1.5×10-6 m. Light of wavelength 5000 Å falls normally on it. The screen is 1 m away.
(a) Calculate the grating element.
(b) Find the angle for second-order diffraction.
(c) Determine the distance between the two second-order maxima on the screen.
