Back then, Microsoft emphasized on game chat. They thought it was an important part of gaming so players can expect more than just a gaming session. The original Xbox 360 Bundle came with a mic. It was a flimsy, plastic mic. It was very cheap but it was one of the biggest reasons why we remember those MW2 lobbies from 2009-2010. The console came with a mic, which gave players an easy way to talk with friends and chat with other players across the globe. It's something that grew the Xbox 360 community closer than ever.

Unfortunately, the mic started to disappear after the MW2 days. The Xbox 360 bundles still came with a mic, but at that point, game publishers and the manufacturers were thinking of ways to help make game chat a little cleaner. But eventually, Microsoft ditched the thought of game chat. Once the Xbox One released, Microsoft wanted trolling to not make a comeback. One of the ways they combated this was to not include mics with the Xbox One bundles. Another way was that they ended forced game chat, meaning players were free to not talk or stay in a private party chat in a game that once required forced game chat. Ultimately, Microsoft created game chat in 2005 with the Xbox 360 but also destroyed it in 2013 with the Xbox One. They destroyed the thing they created, because they did not anticipate possible toxic game chats or trolling.

I'll never forget how everyone had a mic and that I was able to indulge myself with arguments over Call of Duty because it was fun. I liked it. It made me feel alive in the lobby.
