Lymph node examination of neck is a very commonly asked question in both ENT and surgery final exam practicals. This is useful in day to day ENT practice , too. It has to start with examination of level I, II, III, IV, V and level I and VI sequentially.
Patient's neck is to be well exposed from chin to clavicle below and laterally to the anterior border of trapezius.
Patient neck is to be relaxed and slightly flexed during examination.
Level I is examined twice as most nodes here are drained from the oral cavity and oropharynx which are commonly infected.
For examination of level II, III, IV ( upper, middle and lower jugular chains), thumb and other fingers are to be made like C to examine the nodes deep to sternomastoid as most of these nodes lie deep to sternomastoid which are missed during simple superficial palpation.
I want to specially thank Dr. Sandeep Rimal and Dr. Sandeep Chhetri who helped me a lot while preparing this video.
