In Tarkari Mohalla of Surmo village, people once again step forward to protect their homes from the continuous erosion of the Shoq River.
After serious damages in 2023, the community built a protective embankment in 2024 using self-help efforts and local donations.
During the major floods of 2025, this embankment successfully protected the entire area.
Now in 2026, the locals have started preventive work earlier in winter to safely divert the river flow before the summer floods arrive.
With community funding and support from the Deputy Commissioner Ghanche (providing an excavator), the project is underway.
