Mowing thick overgrown grass is no fun but life happens and sometimes you don't mow your grass for a month (I wanted to let it grow to make a video on mowing overgrown grass). In my opinion if you can't bag your clippings, raising the deck up, mowing, then lower a notch at a time and cutting smaller amounts off at a time is the best way to do it.
Also, I've seen complaints about the timemaster clogging and clumping. If you're not mowing wet grass, you should have no issue with it. At least in my personal experience, I have had no issue with it.
