During World War II, the Allied powers sent dozens of women as undercover agents into Nazi-occupied territories. They worked alone, out of uniform, using false identities. Their work was critical: maintaining contact with the Allies, coordinating arms deliveries, and supporting the resistance.
The Third Reich didn't consider them combatants. They were classified as illegal spies. Once captured, they were beyond legal protection. What happened afterward was never recorded, and few survived to tell the tale.
What happened after the capture? Why were international conventions not applied? How was it possible that dozens of agents disappeared without a trace in the middle of occupied Europe?
