Dr Kaya Barry is interviewed by Dr Cormac Opdebeeck-Wilson about her ARC DECRA project on migration and community engagement.
The conversation touches on a wide range of issues, including the work of human geographers and the use of art and participatory photography / photo- voice to document the lives of migrant farming workers in Australia.
Kaya is a cultural geographer and artist. She is a senior lecturer and DECRA fellow at Griffith University. Prior to this, she was an Associate Professor at Aalborg University in Denmark and, before that, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Griffith University.
Kaya's creative arts practice informs both the methods and focus of research. She has a keen interest in how mobilities and geographical research intersect with creative, participatory and community-oriented forms of engagement. She is a convenor of the Cultural Geography Study Group of the Institute of Australian Geographers, with a keen interest in facilitating innovative and practice-led approaches to research.
The interview is part of a series of events organised by the Visual Politics Program at the University of Queensland.
